Vanessa Kirby, who plays Princess Margaret in the $176 million hit series The Crown, has revealed that the new season will be a lot darker than its first.

'We wanted to show how dark she gets, how difficult it is for her, and her sadness,' the actress told?News Corp.

Margaret's heartache follows her relationship with Peter Townsend being banned by the Queen due to his divorce status and it's interesting timing given the recent real-life engagement between Prince Harry and divorcee Meghan Markle.

The 29-year-old actress also confessed that she 'didn't have any interest' in the Royal Family before taking on the role of Princess Margaret, but praised her as an 'advocate for change.'

After her relationship with Townsend, the royal princess wed Anthony Armstrong-Jones.

'How good is it that she became such an advocate of change but such a shame that she didn't get to do it herself,' Vanessa Kirby told news.com.au.

Discussing the more emotional Margaret storyline?in the second season, Vanessa said viewers will get to see a different side of the Queen's sister.?
