With the show's teen stars - including Millie Bobby Brown,?Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo - advancing in age, writers are now planning a 'time jump' to bring the forthcoming season up-to-date. ?

It is not yet known when the third season will be released, or indeed set.
Season one was set in November of 1983, while the follow up was set almost a year after that, around Halloween 1984.
Creator twins Matt and Ross Duffer are aware their young stars are aging and will face the challenge of how the third season deals with that.?
'Our kids are aging. We can only write and produce the show so fast,' Matt told The Hollywood Reporter in October.?

'They're going to be almost a year older by the time we start shooting season three. It provides certain challenges. You can't start right after season two ended.?
'It forces you to do a time jump. But what I like is that it makes you evolve the show. It forces the show to evolve and change, because the kids are changing.?
'Even if we wanted it to be static and we wanted to continually recycle the same storyline - and we don't - we would be unable to, just because the kids are changing. It's cool, though.?
'The audience is going to be able to watch these kids come of age every year.'?
The Duffers originally intended filming seasons three and four back-to-back to avoid the problem, but opted against it.?

They have also indicated that the entire series will conclude withing a four or five season arc.?
Another thing changing for season three is the stars' wages; ?it was revealed in September that Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin received $30,000 per episode for seasons one and two.
The young actors were also handed a bonus, based on the success of the show. ?
However, they are expected to band together to renegotiate their contracts for future episodes.??
While Netflix does not release viewership figures, ratings company Nielsen claimed a whopping 15.8 million people streamed the season two premiere?on October 27 - with many more catching up afterward.
