Anton Yelchin shows range posthumously as drug dealer turned hitman in new Thoroughbreds trailer

Anton Yelchin played a drug dealer turned hitman in a new trailer released on Thursday for Thoroughbreds.

The upcoming drama was filmed before the Star Trek actor's death in a freak accident in 2016 at age 27.

Yelchin portrays Tim in the thriller written by Cory Finley who also makes his directorial debut with the movie.?

Thoroughbreds focuses on childhood friends Lily, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, 21, and Amanda, portrayed by 23-year-old English actress Olivia Cooke.

They reconnect in suburban Connecticut after growing apart with Lily becoming a polished, upper-class teen.

Amanda meanwhile has become a sharp-witted social outcast.

The trailer for the Focus Features movie opened with Lily and Amanda watching an old black and white movie together.?

They get interrupted by Lily's stepdad Mark, played Paul Sparks, 46, who rudely asked Amanda how long she was going to be there.

'My mom's gonna pick me up around midnight,' Amanda replied.

'Midnight is late for us. I'll call your mom. She can come pick you up now,' Mark said sternly.

Amanda described herself as not having 'any feelings ever', which requires her 'to work a little harder to be good'.

Lily was then seen being harshly told by Mark: 'I'm sending you to boarding school. After that, you're off my payroll'.

Amanda later asked Lily: 'Ever think about just killing him?'.

'How would you?,' Lily responded.

Tim was then shown taking center stage at a party.

'I am providing you all with early drug experiences you will forever cherish,' he said before being punched at.

Amanda and Lily then approached Tim and said, 'We have a propositon for you'.

Tim later brings a gun to Lily's mansion after a humorous car ride together and offers to let her hold it.

Amanda and Lily then were shown swimming together in the pool.

Their plans seemed to go awry as Tim at one point was struck on the head.

'What am I going to tell my dad?,' he asked while nursing his wound in a tub.

'Wear a hat. We're keeping this by the way,' Amanda said while holding his gun.

Thoroughbreds also stars Francie Swift and Kaili Vernoff.

Taylor-Joy is best known for playing Thomasin in the critically acclaimed 2016 horror film The Witch.

Thoroughbreds premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled for release on March 9, 2018.

Yelchin died on June 19, 2016 after he was pinned between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and a brick pillar outside his Los Angeles home.

He played Pavel Chekov in three Star Trek films and 2016's Star Trek Beyond was dedicated to him.
