The 52-year-old star's comments were all in jest, however, and came as John was discussing his upcoming pantomime role in Dick Whittington.

Some fans of the long-running programme were up in arms when it was revealed that actress Jodie Whittaker would be taking on the role of the Doctor - but John doesn't agree.
