Lewis Hamilton stepped up to Ben Stiller's challenge and joined Globo Gym Purple Cobras for a charity dodgeball match in New York.

Back in June Stiller got into character as White Goodman from the 2004 film and called out Hamilton on social media, offering the chance to join his fictional team for a special event.

Ahead of this Sunday's final Grand Prix in the season in Au Dhabi, Hamilton jetted to New York to take part in the game, helping the Stiller Foundation raise money and awareness of the dire water situation in post-Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico.

Hamilton put on the Cobras' purple tracksuit and was clearly getting into the spirit of the game.?The Mercedes driver was eliminated when original Average Joe, Justin Long, made a spectacular dive to catch Hamilton's throw.

Stiller, who organised the dodgeball game, spoke to American morning talk show Today about the serious purpose of the lighthearted event.

He said: 'It is an Omaze campaign to raise money for what's going on in Puerto Rico and for the people dealing with Hurricane Maria. So we got 580,000 bottles of water that we raised money for to get to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.'

In the clip on Today, the Purple Cobras beat Average Joe's with Stiller finally eliminating anchor Hoda Kotb to reverse the result from the film's final showdown.

Hamilton, who secured the F1 driver's championship at October's Mexican GP, gets back to his day job this weekend and has promised he will not hold back in the season finale.

'I'm going to give it everything in Abu Dhabi,' said Hamilton.?'It's cool and I'm excited for that. It's obviously an unusual position to be in.'
