Las Vegas police are hunting an armed robber who pulled off an audacious heist of the Bellagio Casino's poker cage wearing a wig and glasses.

The man, who was captured on CCTV, pulled a gun on a dealer inside the world-famous casino on Las Vegas' strip, forcing him to hand over cash.

Stunned guests watched on as the drama unfolded, including actor James Woods, who praised the Bellagio staff for their handling of the situation.

The robbery took place Tuesday afternoon around 3.45pm after the criminal parked a car in the Bellagio valet.

A man, who police said appeared to have been held against his will, is understood to have been in the car throughout the duration of the robbery.

He is not thought to have been complicit with the crime and had escaped the silver Chevrolet Cruze by the time the robber returned with an unknown amount of cash and drove off.

CCTV images have emerged today of the suspect.

His mask appears to have been made out of some type of bandage while his wig is seen held in place by a beanie hat.?

While officers were soon on the scene, the suspect had already gotten away, having parked in the valet for easy access.

James Woods happened to be inside the Bellagio during the robbery and tweeted about the ordeal 10 minutes after the robber fled.

'So we are playing poker at the Bellagio and a guy walks up with a gun and robs the cage thirty feet from us ten minutes ago,' he tweeted on Tuesday.

'Bellagio staff were fantastic. They surrendered the money quietly, so no customers would get hurt. Nobody even realized it was happening. Excellent staff, cool under pressure.

'So evidently the guy got away,' added the 70-year-old actor upon hearing that the culprit had escaped.

'The Bellagio security made a point of not engaging him after the actual robbery to guarantee the safety of their customers,' he added

Las Vegas police are looking for the silver Chevrolet Cruze and asking for help identifying the vehicle with Nevada license plates.

MGM Resorts International, owner of the Bellagio, plans to work with investigators to identify the suspect.

Metro Captian John Pelletier said that they are 'comfortable and confident' that they have enough to apprehend the man, who is understood to have acted alone.

The Bellagio grew in popularity after the 2001 film Ocean's Eleven had stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Bernie Mac - and more - pull off a mega-million dollar heist at the casino.?

Earlier this year in March, Sebastian Gonzalez and three others donned animal masks while robbing a jewelry store at the Bellagio.

Gonzalez told local law enforcement that someone threatened his family's safety if he didn't carry out the heist.

A suspect was arrested back in 2014 after stealing $45,000 from the Bellagio and embarking on 'wild night on the town.'
