She lost a staggering 55 kilograms after appearing on reality series The Biggest Loser in 2008.

And now almost a decade later, Alison Braun has revealed she has maintained her stunning weight loss through strict routine.

Speaking to Weekend Today?on Sunday, the 44-year-old said her time on the program helped her cope with her husband Robert's suicide just six months later, and continue her weight loss journey.

'A reality TV show gave me all the skills and the strength to be able to cope with everything that came after that, because I learnt so much about myself that I never knew existed,' the mother-of-three said.??

'I had no choice at that point, I just kept on going and set up that routine - live a healthy lifestyle, even more so being the only parent, I never wanted to go back.'?

Applying a new mindset learnt on the program into her 'old life' was the main challenge when it came to keeping off the weight, Alison said

'The secret, I would have to say, is routine - certainly not motivation. ?Everyone thinks motivation is the secret but it's certainly not that,' Alison said.

But facing the 'confronting' reality that her old ways led to being overweight forced her to make wholesale changes.

'When I came home, I realised that my old life had actually created where I was right then and there ... so I had to go home and change a lot of my life and just do things differently to the way I always had done,' she said.?

'Before Alan, I resigned myself that I probably wouldn't get in a relationship again until the kids had grown up and left home, so this really wonderful thing happened when he came along and took me by surprise,' she told ?last month.

'Two years on and we're still like teenagers. I always said I would never get married again but I have certainly taken that out of the vocabulary since meeting Alan.'??
